This one isn’t actually for Christmas, but I feel that anything about Jesus is appropriate when celebrating His birth. The melody, which I used an oboe sound on my keyboard, is so amazingly beautiful. I love to sing in Latin, so I include here the original Latin and then the English translation. This is one of my favorite tracks, I hope you enjoy it, too.
by W.A. Mozart, arr. by Christine L. Myers
Mozart used this setting of Psalm 117 as the fifth Psalm in the service of Solemn Vespers of a Confessor (K.V. 339), composed for the Archbishop of Salzburg.
Laudate Dominum omnes genites,
Laudate eum omnes populi,
Quoniam confirmata est super nos miericordia eius,
Et veritas Domini manet, manet in aeternum.
Gloria patri, et filio et spiritui sancto,
Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper
Et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
English Translation:
Praise the Lord all nations,
Praise him all peoples
For His mercy is established over us,
And the truth of the Lord endures, it endures forever.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be
Even to ages of ages. Amen.
